I don't think it was sold as a denim package, but it was clearly developed to match the medium-to-light blue color of a good brushed denim. The upholstery shop pulled it from the Chevy catalog in about 1984 when I had the work done. It was very soft to the touch with a very short nap, similar to a well worn pair of Levi's, and like a good pair of jeans, it wore like iron.
Incidentally, if you ever need really nice upholstery for a chair or a barstool, look into the fabric catalogs at a good auto upholstery shop. The material is REALLY expensive (I think mine was about $35/yard in 1985), but the quality of auto fabrics is amazing - they are usually comfortable, wear extremely well, and are easily cleaned. On small jobs at least, the cost isn't prohibitive.
