Default Bay Ridge Lexus SUCKS!!!!

Hello everyone!
A few days ago a check engine light came on. My first guess was O2 sensor and when I took it to my friend's shop and used the computer to pull off the code I read "Oxygen sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1". So, went to the dealership (Bay Ridge Lexus) to do inspection on the car. On the way there the VSC OFF light came on and Sport light was blinking
I came in and gave the car to a service person. After 5 min in the waiting lounge one of the Service Assistants gladly invited me to his office. He asked what I wanted to do today, I said that my baby need inspection with a printout of what it needs to be in top shape. It was $230 for inspection which was fine with me. I waited about 2 hours until "my" assistant called me to go see my car. He showed me there was a small oil leak from the gasket on the passenger side and that control arm bushings were cracked a little.
After the calculation of all that my car needs it was $3000 ($620 valve seal gasket, $760 for suspension, $920 for main back tranny seal, $360 to reseal tranny and $230 to reset the computer and misc fees.) in total with parts and labor excluding tax. I told him that I don't have that amount right now and said to do the gasket seal and computer reset. Oh and the check engine light, VSC and Sport lights were a computer glitch - managers' words.
So, it was $850 for the seal and reset. Everything was documented and signed. Meanwhile he gave me a rental car (PT Cruiser), they were out of loaners, for free. He also said that my car will be ready tomorrow, but he'll be off, so I should come Thursday to pick up the car. This was all yesterday.
Now, today I called the dealership and asked if my car was ready and the total bill amount. Manager called me back and said the car was ready and the bill is $1030 with some change. After my request to calculate tax from $850 he gave me another digits: $922 which was more like it, but after I asked him "Are you not giving me the $850 price?" he said "NO" but then quickly said that he's going to call my service assistant and get back to me.
He got back to me 5 min. later telling me that it was "all good" and my bill would be $922 with tax. But when I inquired about thursday pick up he said: "Oh we only pay for the rental for one day, next day is on you." I had to make very quick arrangements to get off work early which wasn't easy.
Finally when I came to pick up my car, already paid and was waiting at the exit a guy pull up in a new body GS430. "That's not my car" I said. He pulled out and returned on foot asking my plate number. My car was STILL ON THE LIFT WITH HOOD OPEN. Some mechanic checked oil and said I'm good to go (he was not the mechanic who worked on my car). After coming home I noticed scratches on rear right fender (seems like somebody passed by with a box).
I will NEVER go to this dealership again. Nobody could answer my question directly of what else was done (I also noticed the car was much lower to the ground). Very unhappy with the service.
Can you guys recommend any other good shops please, I'm DONE WITH A DEALER.

I feel ur pain with Bay Ridge. Seems like no body cares. I know a mechanic that has his own shop that used to work for the dealer on Jamaica and Crescent St close to the J train in Cypress Hills, Queens. I'll have to get the number for you in a PM.

I went to bayridge lexus about 5 years ago when i had my gs400 and they pretty much raped me without vaseline for $1500 and all the requested work was not done. I complained to one of the service mgrs and nothing was done to satify me as a customer. One of the mechanics refered me to a friend of his that used to work for bayride lexus service dept that had recently opened his own shop. I have been going to this guy for the past 5 years now. I just bought a 04 ls430 ul. I got his bessing before i purchased the car. The original mechanic that refered me left lexus as well and is now working in the same shop. These guys are the "ONLY" people that can even look at my car. There prices are extremely fair and the get original parts from the dealer. I literally have to call in advance to see if they have time for me because when i get there, there is a line lexus cars waiting to be taken care of. They have been working on lexus cars for many years and know them inside and out. There is not job that can't be done. They are located in cypress hill queens. The owners name is Ritchie the # for the shop is 718 235 3085. The name of the shop is "fix right toyota/lexus specialist" Tell them that Ansel recommended them. I promise, you will not be dissapointed!!!!

My Lexus dealer insists that I sight a form whenever they work on my car that lists the maximum I'll have to pay for what they are doing - which is great by me. I'm guessing your dealer didn't do that. It also sounds that they aren't sticking to their word on the repair costs that you agreed to. And a PT cruiser? WTF? That's three strikes in my book - time to go elsewhere. YOU are the customer. Vote with your feet and find a new dealer.

Like everything in life, some things are better than others: some Lexus dealers are absolutely fantastic, others aren't great. Find a fantastic dealer and you'll be very happy. I find that the Elite of Lexus Dealer award is a good indication that the dealer cares about their customers.

Well, what do you guys expect from a dealership?? How do you think they pay for all the nice facilities that they have built and the people they have to pay and maintain the place?? In any case, get a wholesale account with the parts department and get to know the guy.. this way you get a good discount!! Once you got the part.. go to your mechanic and get your work done for a better price .. this way you are in a win win situation. I would prefer doing it myself for minor things at least (unless it is warranty)... after all it is only taking bolts out an putting them back!!

Default Negative Press

This is an example of why it's imperative to have a Lexus Decal on the vehicle, attesting to membership on the Lexus Forum. If I were a dealer, I'd be really wary of a customer who had access to our kind of customer base. I'm sure Lexus National would have concerns, as well.

I was going to have an inspection and oil change on Friday at Bay Ridge Lexus, but now I'm not too sure. I've asked them to address the issues raised here and will wait a few days to see if anything happens. If they contact me, I'll let the membership know of their response.

Bayridge lexus does suck i really hate going there but they're the closest to my house...call 1-800-25-lexus & open a claim against them, let them know everything that happened & they'll investigate them... it works & you'll maybe end up getting something done probono as a good faith gesture.

Call and complain to try to get corporate to make them improve, but I wouldn't go back to the dealership. Even with probono repairs, if the service sucks, why would you go back to get FREE stinky service?

I usually go to Lexus of Edison, after having gone to Warnock Lexus for a long time. Both are good dealerships and have treated me right.

I agree but if people don't complain the service will stay the same....i myself would'nt like the fact of having to travel out of my way for service when there's a dealer close to me....they need to clean up their act it's not the building it's the people working there,if people complain then corporate will take a step back a see that they have a serious problem & force them to make changes.....believe that

I agree!

You become part of the problem too when you don't report bad CS. If customers all are thinking someone else will report them or I will go else where for service and not report it then the issue/s are not delt with. Lexus holds their dealers accountable, also Lexus is very image conscious of how they are preceived. I get a survey from Lexus every other visit and a follow up call from the dealer asking about my experience when I was they for service. I say make the call don't let it slide, if the OP was pissed offed enough to start a thread about it I say take that energy and point at Lexus headquarters so they can handle it.

Lexus of Manhattan, Lexus of Queens & Bayridge Lexus are all owned by the same people. I personally have never taken my car to any of the Lexus dealerships. Like it was stated on one of the earlier post, I've ordered the parts wholesale or retail. I just do it myself or I have a mechanic that I trust that will do it for me when I don't have time to get it done.

You should definitely file a complaint if the service wasn't up to par. Change will only happen when the masses open their mouths and voice their grievances.
