I'm no brake expert, but it sounds like a sticky caliper to me. Shouldn't get so hot that you can smell it, and see smoke.

I had a front stick, but it did not smoke. The car was driving really funky though, I ended up getting it towed.

Check the parking brake adjustment because you installed a new rotor, and remove the pads and see if the piston is seized up maybe?

sounds like a sticking caliper. You will have to replace it.

That's normal for new brakes/pads to do that.

It's only a problem if the burning smell is still there after a few days.

All the brake jobs I've done have the same results...burning smell (and slight smoke) at first, but then it goes away after a few days.

did you use brake cleaner or whatever on the rotor to get the anti rust covering off?

Good point..rotors do come new with an anti corrosion liquid on them. Gotta hit them with brake cleaner.

I personally have never seen brakes smoke after I changed them out. I would say the smell could be normal, but smoke

no i didn't clean the rotors w/ brake cleaners..i guess i must've messed it up b/c at first i didn't have a big enough c clamp to push the piston back in so i decided to use an rachet extension and a hammer to force it in but everytime i do that the front part of the caliper moves as well. i tried that for about 10 times w/o any luck. then decided to go buy a bigger c clamp..it worked. also it seems like the pad is not biting down on all of the rotor like the other side, only about 75% of the rotor. and when i first tried to take the rotor out i forgot that the e brake was on so i got mad and started hammering the old rotor out which didn't work, and when i realized that the e brake was on, i put it back down and took the rotor off and some of the brake shoe spring and cup holding the brake shoes came off but i got it back together..but now when i pull the e brake it's higher than it was before i did this brake job....

That would only make sense that its tighter bc you have new brakes.

You might have pushed the piston in there crooked which messed the caliper up. Did you put grease on the piston? You're supposed to do that when you do a brake job especially when the pad is nearly gone. The colors are BAD sign I would check that caliper out ASAP! If your going to look at it by your self jack the rear of the car up and see if that wheel does not want to spin or gives you major resistance. If it is replace the caliper. You might have to adjust your parking brake man. If that is sticking on the L/R where everything feel out that parking brake is probably engaging it all the time. So many issues with this car.....
