Default How To Remove Old Tape From Window Visors?

I got a set of used window visors from a buddy of mine. I'm wondering what is the best way to get all the tape off the visors so I can put new tape on? I don't know if I should just use an acrylic solvent or if that would/could mess up the tint of the visors. I did search but everything came back for removing the tape/glue off the car not the visors.

Thanks,
Ki

be careful with the solvents...some solvents will eat away at the plastic of the visor.

Yeah, that's what i figured. People told me to use solvent but I just picture it eating the plastic up. I think I will do my best to remove it by hand with a razor blade first.

Okay, so I took as much off as I could with a razor blade / finger nail first. Then, I used 3M adhesive cleaner on a rag to soften the remaining tape / glue. I used the razor blade again to get most of the left over tape / glue off. Then I used the rag again to get the rest off. 1 visor down, 3 to go.

Try using very hot water...as hot as you can stand without frying your hand off. Saturate your rag into the water and then let it soak onto the glue...about 30 sec.. Then using the same hot rag, start scrubbing the remaining glue. Very hot water dissolves the glue and residue without harming anything. It works great on dealer window stickers, bumper stickers etc.. GL

If you can find that rubber eraser wheel that attaches to a drill, you should get it. It'll remove the glue instantly.

I finished the front yesterday. I will do the rears today. Do you think the wheel would get hot from the friction and melt the plastic? That is all I could think of when a heard about the wheel.

I'm going to try the hot water method too. I don't know if it will be on this, but it's good to know. I would always prefer water over a solvent if possible. Being that I already used cleaner on the fronts (and its already on my desk at work ) I think I will just finish off with that.

just use your nails, nice and easy. patience is a virtue here. I would think twice using solvents though.

I've got 2 down and 2 to go. Each time I used my fingers and Goo Gone with a rag and each time I got a blister on my finger. But then again it was about 90 degrees out too.

I ended up using my finger nail, solvent, finger nail, solvent, finger nail, solvent, etc till it came off. Wash off the adhiesive cleaner, let dry, re-tape, & mount.
