Synthetic or Conventional Oil
I just hit 10,000 miles on my '08 GS 350 and I would like to know what type of oil Lexus usually puts in my vehicle or what should I use or what is required? I also wanted to know if we get a free 10,000 miles check up my Lexus. Thanks for the help.

All Lexus and Toyotas come with conventional oil from the factory. No where in Lexus or Toyota documentation in the FSM's or your owners manual states that the use of synthetics are required. The 5k service intervals are achieved with conventional oil, NOT synthetic. If this was the case, you would see this printed in all documentation, including the engine oil cap of your Lexus.

so my isf has regular oil too? my friend asked the dealer when he got his 5000 service done with isf, they said its synthetic?

And youre right that it doesnt state it in the manuals, but that doesnt mean that dealerships wont use synthetic oil versus regular oil, especially in a Lexus. My gf's CL's 500 doesnt need synthetic either, nor does it state it in the manual, but Fletcher Jones still uses synthetic as well. Perhaps it is just up to the dealerships.

Even tho the manual doesn't state anything on using synthetic...i still would recommend you to use synthetic. It will make a big different in the long run if you keep your car for awhile. When you hit 50K+ ... your engine will still run smooth like the way it use to be.

Did you know those Toyota trucks that have run well over 100, 200, 300, 500k and 1 million miles have achieved this using regular conventional motor oil? A regular maintenance schedule is the key here.
I've run many of my own Toyotas including my previous 04 IS300 over the 100k mark without the use of synthetics. They still run as smooth, strong and are leak free since the day I first bought them.

I'm pretty sure conventional oil is good also as long as you regularly maintenance your vehicle like you stated. I bought a brand new 1994 Toyota Supra back than and didn't use synthetic and after about 30K miles on the car...i notice the car engine wasn't as smooth as the day i bought it.
