96,000 miles need to service
My wife's 2003 RX has a little over 96k miles on it (thanks to the 10k mile roadtrip I put on it these last two months!) and we need this beast to last the next 6yrs before we can really afford a new car. I have been doing Mobil 1 synthetic oil changes with a mobil 1 oil filter every 5k miles. I have a new Toyota air filter that i intend to change every 10k miles.
Her RX runs fantastic with smooth acceleration and good upshifts. I have the next week off and would like to get the RX serviced. I know i've missed the big 80k service, but when I take it in before 100k what should I be looking to get? Also, I realize it's gonna be expensive, so I may not be able to afford all at one time, I just want to know what I should be getting done, maybe what I could do myself to save some cash. Timing belt but it will probably go at least 110k miles, and spark plugs. I would have toyota do it or an independent. Make sure to stay with original plugs (denso iridium) and Toyota timing belt. I took my 99 to toyota and they did the belt and water pump for under $500.. i had the water pump done because it is driven by the timing belt, but many have not and have had no problems. The Lexus dealership will charge you $1300 or more for the same work...Also make sure you are getting the tranmission service, not a flush however, just a drain and fill. Other than that there is no big mystery on the 90k service, maybe a Brake fluid flush, and coolant drain and fill. look at your book, it tells you what Lexus recommends.
