Now that thing is one tough bolt, so we used a metal tube (breaker bar) to get more of a fulcrum.

Now I had to hold the bucket this time, so I couldn't get the shot where it comes out like a waterfall, but you will notice here the fluid is lighter colored than that of the rear differential, and this is due to the addition of the lighter colored 75W140 BMW gear oil with that of the 75W90 Royal Purple gear fluid.

There was not accumulation on the drain plug, a little surprising, but maybe some of the gunk went out through the leaks, but here is the fluid on my hand.

We did the same thing as the first time we did this and attached a hose to the filler plug. Here Rodrigo holds the bottle. Like the rear differential, .9 L goes in.

And the final shot of my uncle blowing the last of the fluid (notice dark colored hose) into the transfer case.

This will likely be the last time I do this with them as 99.9% likely I will be back in the U.S. at this time next year, mostly likely in the Tampa, Florida area. Anyone who wants to help out next time is free to join me and we can do the same if you have an AWD RX.

For those of us handy to a Harbor Freight shop...they have a $4.99 suction pump which works great to suction fluids out...but also out of a container of diff fluid and then push it into the fill hole...did it last week and it works great.

I used it to suction brake fluid out of the reservoir before bleeding the brakes and then ...cleaned it out...used it to fill the tranny and diff. (not on an RX... but it will work.

Great pictures. Suction gun is also what I used, need to get my gear oil replaced with Amsoil 75w-90, now it is almost three years on Mobil 1 75w-90

Thanks for the great how too's!

Most of the jobs I have done now have been written up with tons of pics. Makes it a much easier job, almost like you have done it before.

I used the harbor freight suction gun too. I think I will open it up to load it next time though. I was getting a lot of air in it since the gear oil is so thick. I ended up "using" a little more than a quart to do the transfer case since like any other job, I had to leave a decent puddle on the ground.

Lexmex, is this a 2 man job? Does one person have to hold one end of the tube, while the other pours the oil in? I need to get this done on my RX as well. I would have volunteered to help out if we were in the same zip.

No, you can do it without the hoses and it can easily be a 1 man job, just will take a bit longer, but not much. That is my uncle's idea, so when we are at his shop, we do it his way.

The suction gun concept is the better one. Another possibility is taking the suction piece of say those little bottles of fluid (like armor all, liquid for washing windows) and stick it on the bottle of the gear fluid. I do that for changing out the Power Steering fluid.
