IS 350 vs. Mustang GT
Performance wise, by the numbers-
Mustang GT Coupe-
3356 lbs curb weight
300 hp @5750 rpms
320 tq @4500 rpms
0-60 in 5.1, 1/4 mile in 13.9@104
Lexus IS350 sedan-
3527 lbs curb weight
306 hp @6400 rpms
277 tq @4800 rpms
0-60 in 5.4, 1/4 mile in 14.0@99.6
(folk on here have certainly run better but it's a decent example of the mag tests)
By the numbers the mustang wins- BUT
The above assumes a manual mustang, perfectly driven. It's pretty rare that happens... and the 5-spd auto in the mustang is kinda crap compared to the 6-spd auto in the Lexus... I'd also put money on VDIM doing a better job than the Ford traction control system in keeping power to the ground. Now, turn VDIM and the Ford T/C off, it's very much a drivers race.
the line.. a 20 roll.. 40 roll.. 60 roll
IS350 is faster than a mustang gt.. unless the stang is highly modded

But, I'm glad to see that someone actually posted true stats about the cars. I have an EXTREMELY hard time believing that all these IS350 owners are "destroying" the mustang.
One reason: if someone has a completely stock mustang, they probably could care less about racing, and more about just enjoying their car. Same with the IS350...anyone with a completely stock one probably doesn't care about racing and just likes the car for what it is.
Celebrating Lexus & Toyota from Around the Globe
I DEFEND the IS on the mustang forums if needed (has only happened once), with the same comments that I did in my original post.

I agree the new mustang is much nicer on the inside than the previous generation.
But that says more bad things about the previous gen than good things about the new one.
I test drove about 10 cars before buying my IS350. The 07 Mustang GT was the only one that simply sitting in it without even turning it on made me ABSOLUTELY not want to own it. I only drove it to be polite to the sales person. (and honestly with the engine on the car's a lot more fun...the sitting in it is HORRID... crap cheap plastic everywhere, my knees had -zero- room side to side and I'm not especially tall, rear entry was terrible even for a 2-door, and did I mention the crap plastic interior that looked like even GM wouldn't have used it in the 90s?
The dash cluster was very pretty though, nice and retro.
The seats themselves weren't bad either.
Everything else inside the car...horrid.
I'm not joking when I say a Suzuki Aero I once was forced to use as a rental had a vastly nicer and higher quality interior as far as plastics, panels, etc.
It was that bad.
Beautiful engine, dash, and exterior looks... rest was crap.
It was funny... my wife, after we'd disappointedly driven an Avalon and one of the new 287hp camrys (both north of 30k) and then more happily had driven an Acura Tl-S, said (about the Acura) 'Now that's the first one that felt like a $30,000 car on the inside." and later made similar remarks on the G35 sport and IS350 we drove.
After the mustang she reminded me of this and said (about the mustang) "that one felt like a $3,000 car on the inside"
Is it better made than any decent import (accord, camry, lexus)...probably not. Although, to me at least, it's certainly not bad
Is it better than other domestic (chevy, other fords, etc)...most definitely.
Is it faster than the IS350.....I'm honestly not sure. Like I said, I think the mustang is faster off the line (and yes, I'm a pretty good manual driver). But, the Lexus has electronics that make it faster from a highway roll.
The rocket up your butt feeling that the IS gives you from a highway roll is the same feeling that the GT gives you off the line.
