Aloha everyone! I recently purchased a 2000 RX300 AWD. The car have 93k miles on it. I just did my 90k miles manufactures recommendation tune up on it, i spent about $1200. So! how many miles can I expect out of a Lexus RX300?.

Aloha back to you our friend,okay since you didnt mention the year,or if AWD or FWD here is what I personally learned since owning mine.best bets for the 300 seem to be from 2002 on,reason is oil sludge problem and some trans. issues (mostly with AWD) I have a 2001 AWD w/83k,and knock on wood no issues yet.As for the engine,its a toyota,should last 250k (in my opinion)if maintained properly.Let us know what year,and AWD or FWD.The first thing I would do in either case,is do a fluid and filter change (in trans.)because when you drop the pan,it tells you a little something about the condition of your transmission.Also,change the gear oil in front and rear with synthetic gear lube.You will be glad you did.

I think a lot has to do with whether highway miles or city-driving miles. Highway miles are a lot easier on the car than short trips and stop-and-go driving. I used to have a Mercedes-Benz diesel car and the people who got over 1,000,000 miles were those who did only highway driving. My engine went at 220,000 miles and I did mostly city-suburbs driving (over 20 years). I'm not saying you can expect these milages, but I think there may be a 5:1 factor between easy highway driving and normal city/suburban driving.

Hello Hello.

As many transmission horror stories you'll see on this forum the RX300 is still a very strong, reliable, long-term vehicle you can depend on. Mine has about 109,xxx miles on the clock and still runs strong. It is an '01 AWD and I can tell you I'm a spirited driver.

What I recommend with this car is liberal fluid changes, especially the transmission. You can pick up some Toyota T-IV for ~$4-5/quart at most Toyota dealerships and do the drain and fill yourself every 10-15K miles, it's a relatively easy and rewarding task.

I use Royal Purple synthetic in the transfer case and rear differential for many beneficial reasons, including extended drain intervals because those plugs are less than pleasant to get to.

As far as your engine goes a popular synthetic oil around here is German Castrol 0W-30, which is the oil in mine currently but I have also used Valvoline 5W-30 with great results.

These combined with some hand washes and waxes keeps my RX happy.

KNOCK ON WOOD... just tipped over 100K and only "issue" was the engine coil went around 87K, and that was $400 unexpected. Everything else has just been maintenance and wear-n-tear. As for how much to expect, I have had my RX300 since it was about 47K, so I had it for the majority of it's life and I maintain it well. I knew the previoius owner and he treated it well to, so I realistically expect it to last atleast into 150-180K without issue, and then after that it's just gravy for me. I'm not going to sit here and say it better get to 250K or I'm disappointed.

As someone else posted, driving condition and pattern makes a world of difference too. One of my friends has a Highlander AWD with the 3.3L engine and it's about 80% highway driven and he's gone 70K without even changing his front brake pads yet. His oil is still "clear" after like 5K of driving and he changes it...go figure. He uses synthetic too (as do I) for his oil.

Anyway, good maintenance and normal driving habits do much good for a car. Good luck with your RX... hopefully you enjoy it for a long long time.

My father bought a '99 AWD Rx300 and drove it for 96K miles. It was then handed down to my sister who has driven it a mix of highway and city in all conditions in the NorthEast weather. Odometer now reads 202,788 miles and counting.

Neither of them maintained it religiously. Took it to Jiffy lube or the dealer for oil changes. Sometimes used syntec oil, sometimes not. They did have the 60K and 90K schedule maintenance done at Lexus.

My wife and I own a 2002 Rx300 and it presently has 76,000 SoCal miles on it. I've been doing all the maintenance myself using all good oil and filter, parts..etc. So far so good, outside of a couple of little things. My goal is to get to 200K.

I saw a 2000 for sale in our local paper today with 170k miles! for $9950.

1999 RX300 AWD with 160,000. Only significant disappointment was the need for a new transmission.

I got an RX300, and conduct all the oil changes myself. The car is an 01 with about 87k miles on it now. No tranny problems. Only problem I've experienced is with the idle air control valve. I was getting problems when starting my car..it would idle rough and choke unless I gave it some gas. Anyways, I cleaned out the IACV ( I put together a DIY on a different forum), and it's running just fine now. You treat your car right and it should return the favor... Cheers

It will go forever if you maintain it. Repairs are a normal part of car ownership. They just get bigger and more frequent the older the car. More relevant question is how long do you intend to maintain it?

My 2002 RX300 has 117K miles on it, and it still runs like the day I bought it. I think that I can easily put 300K miles on it without any major work.
