Searched and didn't really get any good answers; does anyone know of some good products to dye upholstery? I am needing to dye a headliner black. Preferably the same hue as the carpet/ material in a black interior Sc300. If anyone has some good advice, it would be much appreciated.
search for SEMs dye. Its high quality and goes on very easily. All you need to do is clean the part, let it dry, then spray on the dye. You can dye a whole pannel in about an hour start to finish. VHT is another good company. Both should be very similar in color. I would go with either a flat black or a semi-gloss due to the gloss being overly glossy.
I used VHT to paint my steering column and my center console. I cleaned them off with simple green, let them dry, and painted them.
On the steering column especially it really soaked in because it kept the texture of the plastic, and when I screwed a gauge pod onto it the paint didn't chip or peel at all.
The posts I found pertained to panels and dashboards. I need to dye the carpet upholstery headliner. Also, a lot of the threads don't show up as the network here blocks pretty much anything.
I havent tryed it yet. I just read it on other forums. A member here dyed his flow carpet with it. He said he had to do it twice since the first time turned out purplish. but after the second coat it looked good.

I believe that's DX3... I remember you have to soak it for several days.
how much would carpet at an upholstery shop cost? Plus you would have to cut it out to shape. I think im just making it sound harder than it really is.

It can range anywhere from $75-200 including install depending on the shop and how reputable it is. They do it all for you.
I just don't get the members here that want to rip their own interior apart, buy the dye, spend countless hours cleaning, then dying the interior, reassemble, and put it all back together. That's a LOT of work and time. Cost-value analysis will show that you're probably only saving a few bucks here and there. Pay a pro to redo the entire car!! Spend the money if you're going to build a superior vehicle.
