So the fronts went in today, Infineon Raceway on Sunday will be my test day. The fronts were not as bad as the rear, but clearly needed replacing. The MKIV TT's front sway bar's pressure on the bushing was creating an oval shape.
MJHSC400, My thanks to you for the thread, the bushing replacement is a great find.
The post with the fronts being cut down is right on, that's exactly what I had to do.
This is what the drivers side bushing looked like (over exposed, lost some details):
Very nice cuts on the brackets, by comparison I totaly butchered mine, lol. About your bushings being "not that bad", they certainly aren't rotting, but they sure look deformed, oval-ized and the right side shows some fabric threads. I think that's were we'll pick up the handling improvements, suddenly the sway bar has something to leverage against that won't give way.
Edit: Those cuts are more than nice, I just noticed you custom cut them for the left and right side. That rocks...!!!
when i installed the bushings.. Poly.. umm it sits open a bit? like the cut in the bushing is slightly open when its on the swaybar. is that bad or normal? i just bolted that that bracket down nice n tight.. so it wont go anywhere
dang! why didnt i find this post before?! i could have bought some supra tt sway bar end links from that rockauto site for $20 rather than going to lexus and buying theirs for $90! holy crap that sucks! im definitely bookmarking that site for many of my oem parts!
Today I threw in the bushing kit on my SC and I must say that it was well worth it! My stockies weren't so bad, but I still noticed a difference. Thank you MJHSC400. This is a great contribution for the SC community. Think ill go pick up the rears now..
So for those of you who have installed these, what kind / brand grease did you use (preferably something i can buy off the shelf)? I just received my bushing kit today.
They normally give you free Summit Racing gear like a hat, a shirt, and/or decals with your purchase, so your $10 is not entirely in vain.
Eh...it only came with a sticker and a whole bunch of advertisement junk.
So for those of you who have installed these, what kind / brand grease did you use (preferably something i can buy off the shelf)?
I used something called "Green Grease" an off the shelf "mulitpurpose synthetic waterproof polymer grease" ...whatever. I bought it because the package said it "lasts up to 8x longer, works in extreme heat, seals and protects and is fertilizer resistant" That last part did it for me.
I put about 80 miles on the car on Infineon Raceway's road course yesterday. Yes, the new bushings helped the MKIV sway bars calm understeer and body roll, though there is other work to be done. Bilstein coilovers in the works. See my track pix: Infineon Raceway Track Pix
