i think black tint needs some metallic stuff in it to block the heat...i've had 20% black non reflective tint before and changed it to 20% black with metallic stuffs in it (20% madico onyx) and the reflective one felt slightly cooler. i've also tried solar guard 20% quantum tint which blocks out more than the black ones since it's full metallic. now i have 70% v-kool tint all around and it actually blocks out more heat than the 20% that i had...my car is also clear too like you can't even tell there's tint on from the inside lol v-kool is the best tint i've ever tried.

A good tint will block out a lot of the heat, the outside of the glass will be pretty hot, but the inside of the car will be cooler than normal. Madico claims that the onxy 20% tint blocks 66% of incoming heat. I tend to believe it, I have a black interior and the leather is never even close to hot, car still gets mildly hot in the summer because the front windshield isn't tinted (not even close to legal in WA).

if left outside long enough youre car will get hot inside, its made of METAL. tint helps to reduce heat while youre driving, it blocks 99% UV rays (lexus glass is uv tinted but it blocks out nowhere near this amount), it gives you and youre car privacy, it protects your interior, and it holds the glass together in case of an accident(depending on severity).

metallic tint is kind of old school. yes it blocks out a lot of heat and has a lifetime warranty, but the metal can interfere with your keyless entry, navigation, AM/FM radio, cell phone reception, and tire pressure monitors. you can go with a fully dyed tint but this stuff is that purple bubble stuff. yes now they give it a lifetime warranty but you dont want to risk having to have it all scraped off. pluss the dyed limo vlocks out less heat than the light in advanced films. on a lexus you really should go with a ceramic or carbon film. it really isnt that much more compared to the benefits of what it will do for your car. these tints block out high heat like metallic, but they dont interfere with signals. carbon tints keep that black exterior look. be careful with the ceramics though, certain brands like huper, vkool, and madico are highly reflective and enhance the black borders of your car. it looks best to blend them in with the tint. i carry 3M carbon and Llumar ATX ceramic, they are both black and do VERY well. Formula one pinnacle is good too, also made by llumar. any questions message me.

who finds 50% and 35% on windshield is almost the same from the inside?

because long ago I changed from 50% to 35%, and there wasn't any difference, except from outside

Hi all,

I'm looking to tint my car.. still not sure whether I want to go with 3M or Llamar, but thinking of 25% on sides and rear. I have several questions though:
1. Is there a difference on the ceramic tint based on the brand? Has anyone had long-term problems with either Llumar or 3M?
2. Ceramic or carbon better?
3. Anyone know a good, reputable place to do it in the Bay Area, CA? Preferably south peninsula (Redwood City or south), southbay (Santa Clara, San Jose) or south east bay (Fremont, Milpitas).

Thanks!

Yes the legal limit is either 70% or 80% front... I cant recall... doesnt matter... they cant tell the difference between 70 or 80 anyways... heck if you're going to go that light might as well not tint it... I think factory glass is already at 70% tint...

I know of a good guy in the 626 area...
