Question, would this be able to be used for a medium powered system lets say 500w with out any adverse effects?

Yes it would work. No adverse effects possible due to the higher amperage rating . To really oversimplify how it works. Modern alts. are built with an internal voltage regulator. Even a stock alt would overcharge the battery if the voltage wasn't limited to the draw of the electrical system and the capacity of the battery. They only supply what the electrical system needs. If you have a more powerful alt it only charges the system with what it needs but, with the extra capacity to be able to handle a higher draw when needed, like when the amps demand more power.

2nd gen GS, but should also fit all 4.0 V8 and 4.3 V8
GS, LS, SC and possibly GX but I think those have a 4.7.
