Default WTB - 1998-2000 GS400 in Canada

Hi all,

As you can tell from my post history, I'm looking into buying a GS400. I'm in Halifax, Canada, but would be willing to take a road trip to buy the right car.

I'm not paying cash, so finding a way to facilitate the purchase through financing will be my preferred way to go.

I've got 2 cars I would need to sell to make this a reality (98 Maxima / 2002 Civic), so mabye going through a dealer for the transaction might be a doable option (i.e. trade in one of my cars there towards your car, pay a small dealer commission, whatever).

What am I looking for?

1998 - 2000 Lexus GS400
Cost: between $20-35K, taxes in.
Colour: Silver or black
Interior Colour: Black
KMs (miles): up to 100K or so (70K miles)
Condition: excellent. I have sunk enough money into my Max that I don't want to spend more on a Lexus. As the sole family car, I need something that is going to be reliable for a year or two.

Mods: Prefer not to have any / many, for now. Wifey won't go for a pre-modded car, but I will, depending on what is on it.

I'm bitter because there was a 2000 black on black with 70K Kms on it for 33$ I just missed

Feel free to PM me or email me at bestcat@eastlink.ca if you have any info.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

best of luck to you bro, I plan on keeping mine for years to come, as long as she is as good to me as I am to her.

If you were in the states, I could get you a deal on a GS400 in a second in NY.

Like I said, best of luck!

Shab,

Depending on what needed to be done to bring it across the border, I might consider an NY - NJ based car. I have family down there (Piscataway NJ), and buddies in NYC I could meet.

Got any leads? Thanks

I hear you on keeping the car - from what I can tell it's a great vehicle.

Want me to tell the .ORG boys what you're up to?

I'm actually thinking of getting my GS in Toronto, but he's asking more than I can afford. I've talked to him on here, and he seems like a great guy. I hope he can sell it for what he's put into it.

Heck, if I do go to TO to pick one up, I'd like to meet him and see his ride, if he hasn't already sold it.

But I'm in Halifax, about a 19 hour drive or so from TO. Used to live in Toronto and Ottawa however, so have friends there to visit, thus making it worthwhile.

Thanks for the tip tho!

keep quiet on the org, for now, as I shall be making my grand entrance soon

if you want me to hook you up, let me know and I'll make a call

I can probably have you a low mileage 98-00 GS400 for under $26k LEGIT, through a dealer

LMK!

Shabby,

No worries - won't steal your thunder.

Yeah, I would definitely be interested. If I can sell my Max within the next week or so, it'll make my situation a bit clearer. How much lead time would you need?

Dealer would DEFINITELY be a bonus, as I would get the Certified Pre-Owned status.

Also - I did a bit of digging with respect to importing vehicles from the U.S to Canada, and apparently the GS400 meets all the requirements to be imported. I would need to have this to get through Customs

Recall Clearance Letter
ü The vehicle must bear a manufacturer's valid statement of compliance label at the time of
importation, otherwise a manufacturer's latter of compliance will be required. See here:
ü The Registrar of Imported Vehicles will mail a Canadian statement of compliance label to you
after passing the federal inspection.
ü Valid alpha-numeric 17-digit VIN
ü Metric speedometer and odometer labels (provided by inspection centre)
ü Daytime running lights, if manufactured after November 1989
ü Infant restraint kit, if manufactured after 1988
ü Child tether anchorage, for most passenger cars manufactured after 1988
(refer to Admissibility List)
ü 8 km/hour bumpers (refer to Admissibility List)
ü French supplementary restraint system label for airbags that require periodic maintenance

(hope this helps someone).

What sort of ease do you think you'd have finding something in the $22-26K range, black / balck or silver / black, with less than 40K miles?

Also - I would want some of the upgrades...
HIDs (if possible)
Nakamichi stereo
17's. (These would be a preferred, but I have 18s already, so may just get the 16s for winter rubber)
Good enough tires to get me back home (if I don't bring my 18s with me)

Anything else I should think of to get this in motion?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, all it would take would be a week before I had some results. He only looks for late models with low mileage (under 50k)

He told me last time, a week and he could find another like mine comparably equipped (maybe not with navi like I got) but decently appointed.

All GS400's came with HIDs and 16's standard. Factory 17's were the usual upgrade and the nakamichi was also an upgrade.

any more questions, LMK
