Replaced the starter on my '99 gs300
Hey guys I just got done replacing my starter granted it took about 2 hours in the WA cold but it's done. Evertime I try to start the car I'll hear a click sound after a few tries it'll start. Well yesterday it wouldn't start at all and I finally got some time to replace it today. For all you DIY guys who want more info let me know I can point you in the right direction.

i just changed mines a week ago on my GS 400. Labor was $300 at my friend's shop, and about $354 for the starter at the dealer. I knew mines was going because when it was cold outside their would be no cranking just the dash lights come on. It would start after about the 4th time of trying to start.

yea lexus wanted to charge me 290 or something for the starter and like 360 for labor. for a total of over 600 dollars. I just went to auto part store after auto part store trying to find one and I found one for about 170 with the coil and lifetime warrenty. Went home located the starter (under the intake manifold bolted to the tranny) and put in work.

I can take some pictures and give you step by step on how to get it done you just need 2 people and a 12 pack to get it done. One of the bolt was pretty hard to and took us a while to get it off. Let me know and I can do that for you tomorrow after work.

I took care of my at Newport of Lexus...Excellent job...Loved the loaner car haha
Although they did try to get me to replace the ball joints when they were fine...
Its a dealer though....can't expect to get service done without them trying to hit you up for other stuff...

Yea, it was pretty cold. By the time we got finished my car had frost on it already. I'm not that familar with these engines either let alone a inline 6 but my warrenty ran out already and I'm just learning how to fix little things as they come up.

That's where the 2nd Gen GS300 starter should be located at. If you still have the factory one you can see the Toyota label and part number.
I circled two screws there somewhere near the center of your screen they are the only two bolts (14mm) holding the starter in place. The bottom one is easier but the top one is really jammed in there. To the right is the bolt (12mm) that holds the wire that connects the starter to the battery. After you remove that wire there is a clip containing 3 wires or so unclip that.
To get the starter you you're going to have to move it around to get it out from underneath the car. To put in the new starter go in reverse.
Pictures and direction is not that well so if you have any questions PM me or post and i'll check. First time I'd post a DIY type thing so bare with me.

oh yea I forgot, If you have a friend have him help you out. Either hold the starter in place while removing or puting the new one on and for you guys to rotate loosing and tighting the bolts because my hand started to crap. Hope that helps let me know how it turned out.
FlavesLex, you can find your starter by tracing the negative wire off the battery post, that's how I found mines.
