Cool How Does Light Sensitive Optitron Meter work?

I have played with the controls and read everything I can find about this on my 07 GS350 but I cannot see any difference no matter how I change the settings and or bright sunlight to shade. What am I supposed to be seeing. I am begining to think am nuts. I am hoping I just don't know what I am looking for. thanks for any input.

The face of your guages either dim or lighten the display in various lighting conditions you are in. It allows you to have an optimum view of your display cluster. If you pay close attention to your guages esp. in direct sunlight (sun shining into the car from behind) the guage face has a blue tint. It's an electrochromatic system that works similarly to your auto dimming mirrors.

The light sensor for this is located right beneath the high center mounted stop lamp on the rear deck of your car.

If you switch off the car, the optitron effect goes away after a few minutes, revealing the beautifully machined silver dial faces. From what I remember (I haven't touched the settings for more than a year) these settings affect the blackness or contrast, so with a high setting the dials will look black on white, and with a low setting you will see more of the silver.

I may have imagined all of that myself...good luck.

mine hardly dim/tint anymore b/c I have 35% TINT on all side and back windows. Much happier.
There is that occasional time when enough sunlight hits at the right angle and I see a little blueish tint.
