Default 7M-GE and 2JZ-GE compatability

I'm in the process of doing a 5 speed swap and have a few questions.....

Will the 7m-ge flywheel fit the W58 transmission? I've read somewhere that they are the same, but haven't found a definite answer.

Also, if this is true, is the 7m-ge clutch assy' the same as the W58?

So basically is......

7M-GE =

2JZ-GE (94-98 Supra NA)
2JZ-GE (92-97 SC300)

? Is this true.

What clutch/flywheel assy's will fit my W58 transmission?

Because the 7m parts are more available to me. And your response didn't really help me any.

Anyone know what clutch/flywheel kits will fit the W58 for a SC300?

Anyone else know whether or not the non-turbo 7M flywheel and clutch will fit the early years SC W58 tranny?

You can run a 2JZ-GE motor on 7M-GTE electronics. Kinda outside the scope of this thread, but yeah.. you can do it

7M-GE on the other hand, nothing is usable.

i had to read this 3 times just to get a clear idea of what you're saying...

7M series and 2JZ series engines (both GE and GTE, where are you getting GTTE? This isn't a Nissan) are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. very few parts are compatable, i know that the flywheels are not. Why on earth would you drill out a flywheel that won't fit and risk a poor fitment and possible flywheel and clutch issues down the road when you could simply buy a flywheel that does work? Just get a 2JZ W58 manual trans flywheel and call it a day, simple as that

7M & 2JZ = Not compatible. Even though you are using the same transmission, there are many parts that don't translate over. Clutch should work, but flywheel won't.

Let's think about this logically...

Flywheel is to motor as Clutch is to transmission.

So based on the before mentioned statement, you would need to have the corresponding flywheel to the motor that you are using, just as you would need to use the corresponding clutch to the transmission you are using.

You can't use an R154 clutch on a W58, so why would you try to use a 7M flywheel on a 2JZ motor?

7M shouldn't be mentioned in the same forum as an SCX Man I hated that motor...

I don't mean to be an ***, but this statement is ignorant. a 7MGTE Supra will flat out beat a 2JZGE SC300 (stock for stock) A stock 7MGTE has almost as much torque as your 92-95 SC400 (254 lb/ft). Yes, that "downgrade", over the hill straight 6 dinosaur could hang. People crap on the 7M, but the reality is, without the 7M you wouldn't have your JZ.

Of course, the new IS350 owners that want to mod would say the following:

NOTHING .dont waste your time with 2J parts .you will be downgrading your cars performance with 2J parts .there too historic

The 7M WAS a good motor in it's time. It has long since been surpassed by the JZ series motor. You can't compare a 7M A70 supra to an SC300 because it's not an apples to apple comparison. Compare a 7M A70 vs a 2JZ A70 and you will see a much closer comparison. I think stock for stock you'll see the superiority of the JZ.
