I tried the 1st Harness. It works fine. Thanks Man!!
I have a 06 GX with 3 plug, The small one is not use i think it for the rear Int sys, which i don't have. so which wire to cut for the speed sensor. I just want my passenger to dial the phone when the truck is moving.
Can someone help me out, which wire on the first biggest connector to cut?
I cut the violet/red but doesn'twork, once the truck move the function goes away, when slow down it come back on.
I did this modification yesterday to my wifes 2006 GX 470. It is very easy and worked perfectly; however, the purple wire w/ the red stripe and the light green wire are on a different plug than the one circled on the picture. It is on the plug closest to the passenger side (next to the one circled). Thanks for the great instructions and pictures!
Does anyone know if the Nav overide works with an SC430? There is no DVD player in the SC430 so not sure what the button sequence might be. Any suggestions? I am waiting to hear from Coastaltech to see if they do have a cable harness for the SC430 for both Nav and Bluetooth. The lockouts on both are really a pain especially on the highway.
This has been discussed before, but I thought I'd post pictures of the DVD Override option. I would like to thank Scott of La Jolla Audio in advance for pointing out the correct wires. I chose to install a switch in the blank next to the "Second Start" button so that I can set it back to default (in case Smokey pulls us over).
Disclaimer: I in NO WAY condone watching DVD movies while driving. If you are preforming this mod for this reason, please let me know when and where you drive so I can stay the hell off the road. I performed this modification so those passengers in the front seat could enjoy the DVD and have control over the screen for children in the rear who cannot yet operate a remote control. I do not find this any more of a distraction than the NAV system. If you think this is a bad idea, please don't continue reading this post.
Tools you will need:
1. Wire cutters/Wire Stripper
2. Pry tool (I used a small putty knife)
3. Drill (if you are installing the switch)
4. Beer
5. Socket Wrench
6. Twist Connectors, Electrical Tape, or Solder/Soldering iron if you feel fancy
7. Beer
8. Light gauge wire
Time Required:
Professional Installer: 20 minutes
Semi-skilled Labor: 45 minutes
Technically Retarded: 5+ hours with no completed product.
Total Cost:
$6.79 from Radio Shack including switch and wire. Hundreds of dollars if you fall into the third category.
(note: Ignore the dust in my pictures... my car is really not that dirty... damn 5mp camera picks up EVERYTHING...)
Step 1: Remove the bottom plasic mouldings that start just below the wood trim on the sides of the NAV. The easiest way is to use a flat object (like a putty knife) with a cloth over it to protect against marking anything. Once you begin to pry it up, you can just pull since the entire piece is held on via tension clips.
Do you know where is (the violet wire with the red stripe - this is the speed sensor wire that disables functions on the screen) ON the CPU/GPS end UNDER the front passenger sit and NOT behind the screen? I was thinking of CUTING it Under the passenger sit instead of behind the front screen to avoid front display disassembly!
Thank you
wow, great thread! i was looking in the RX forum for similar info but no one seemed to put anything together like this.
sorry for the technically retarded question, but is it necessary to disconnect the battery before you embark on this project? only reason i ask is because i had to get the shop manual for the RX to figure out how to get the dang console out and there are warnings all over the place about disconnecting the battery...
sorry for my lack of electrical knowledge! (RX is out of warranty now so i'm ready to do my first real hack job )
Has anyone done this on a 2006 - I popped the bottom pieces off no problem and have had most of the drivers side of the dash apart, so I thought I would sail through this, but the wood pieces up the sides with the vents in them wouldn't come off - the top would pop out, but the middle through the bottom was really on there, I tried using more force than it has taken to remove anything else on the dash with tension clips and it would not budge, it was moving the trim around the nave and radio like it was solidly attached, but I was unwilling to pull harder as anything more would probably break the piece and I don't think it is worth breaking anything over.
I had this mod done on my 2006 GX470 so that I could set my kids up w/ a DVD on the RSES while the vehicle is in motion. Sure now I can work the menus from the NAV screen and even watch the movie on the NAV screen (like I need to see the SpongeBob movie one more time!) but I still can't power up the rear screen w/o getting my hands on the remote control and reaching back to send the signal to the rear screen. The whole point of the mod was so that I could set the whole thing up from the front. What am I missing?!? Is it possible to turn on the rear screen from the driver's seat w/o the remote???

I had the same problem. Have your installer install an infra-red receiver somewhere in the front of the cabin so that you can use your remote on it.
For me it's not the reaching back that's the problem; it's locating +/or getting my hands on the remote which is usually in the 2nd - and sometimes in the 3rd - row. Maybe I should buy another remote to keep up front. There is a button on the Display screen that indicates "Rear Screen Off". It sure would be nice if you could just touch that again to turn the rear screen on, but alas...
