One of the reasons I've mounted my Passport on the windshield vs. going for the cleaner look of a body-mount installation is that every review I've read says that the hidden detectors, including the K40, aren't as effective as the windshield mounts - although the K40 was ranked as one of the best body mounts.
If I recall, they've been in general agreement that the lower mounting positon of the hidden detectors (and the interference caused by the grills they were mounted behind) put them at a disadvantage in signal recognition.
Any comments?
