My advice....either keep the GS or get something else that is equally reliable, like a new GS, an Infiniti G35 or M35 /45, Acura RL, etc....but DON'T go after newer M-B or BMW products. I cannot in all honesty recommend either one....for several reasons.
You are likely to have electronic problems with almost any newer European car, but if you decide you MUST have a Euro-nameplate, especially a high-performance one, look at the Audi S-series or Volvo R-series.....they are a little more reliable than M-B's or Bimmers and have the benefits of All-Wheel-Drive.
Before you buy any of the above, however, check out the 2005 Legacy / Outback Turbo...or non-turbo versions if you don't need the power. I think you will be amazed at the fit-and-finish of this car inside and out for the money. It is totally unlike any previous Subaru product ever sold here....essentially a Lexus at a Subaru price.

All I know is that I had a S55 AMG, and it was nothing but problems. I ended up taking it to the auction, just to get rid of it. Was in the shop 5 times with only 3500 miles on it. I think Merecedes has gone down hill a little. I only had electrical problems, some vibration problems, but I dnn't know if I would buy another one.
I don't know anything about the G55's reliability, but I've always thought it was an awesome and beastly (in a good way) looking vehicle. I'd drive one.
Sorry, guys...I see you were talking about the G-wagon, not the E-class AMG. I was confused there for a minute. I didn't realize it until Dave cut in.
Yeah...the G-Wagon IS a beast. Unlike other M-B- products today, it retains bank-vault construction. The door solidness on those things is awesome. Yes, there is now an AMG version too.
This vehicle is solid because it was originally a German / Austrian military vehicle introduced in 1982 and built for off-roading in the Alps.
Again, my apology....had a brain freeze there for a minute.
Should I give up my GS4 and get G55 AMG? Of course i would love to have both but daym the G55 cost too much.
If you think the G55 costs too much already, what about the maintenance on it, especially for the '05 when MB got rid of their "free" maintenance service? If that's the case, then the 04 would be better since it will come with the free maintenance.
The current G looks good as compared to the speculation of the new one
And mmarshall, regarding the E and G, it doesn't matter on the confusion b/c they're both MBs anyway
Daym so many opinion but all good. The reason why i want to get the G55 AMg because i want a bigger car. I've thought about the GX470 too but ionno yet. I might keep my gs for daily drive and get the G55 AMG or GX470 for weekend car. Right now i use my Supra for daily drive but i about to sell it so yea i think i'm going to look forward into those two cars.
