Question GX vs. LX

I searched the forum and did not come up with much...Can anyone give me the "quick and dirty" on the GX vs. LX? Features, stability, etc. I do not plan to take it offroad with the exception of pulling up a curb or two while tailgating. I could get a new GX or a 2001-2 CPO LX for about the same price...Thanks.

Default here's my take...

I'm in Atlanta too, well Alpharetta. I made the same decision last year and these were my factors..

GX is 1000lb's lighter with the same engine.. more pickup, less sluggish. Buddy here has an LX
and complains about the lack of power. I'm happy with mine.

GX is easier to park. In suburbia, where you have to go everywhere by car, that's a big deal to me.
Plus my wife and I are on the small side, so the GX feels plenty big enough inside for us.
GX just barely fits in my garage, so I'm not sure LX would have.

Then, there's the relative price issue, you could have a new GX or a 2 or 3 year old LX that
someone else enjoyed the best years of (the first few). Again, advantage GX.

In my opinion, the gx is a lot better. It's got the basic luxurious amentities that we look for in a luxury vehicle. It feels very well belt and theres ample power at all bands on the tachometer. Yes, the GX and the LX have the same engine, however, as squiggy stated, there is that weight different. To me, the LX is just a japanese version of the various land rovers. Its got great offroad capabilities and that kinda stuff, but personally, how many of us live far enough out in the boonies to 1. enjoy off roading.or 2. have to go offroad to get to your house. I'd spend my money on a brand new GX.

The extra weight of the LX does make is a smoother ride though, but at the expense of some pick-up and go.

I don't own an LX, so I don't know if the LX has the same issues as the GX, as far as driveline clucks, and vibrations.

Squiggy, I am in Roswell about a mile from Nalley on Mansell. (We're Neighbors!) Interesting synopsis. I love the GX, but just curious why three families within 400 yards of my house have bought LX's in the last 90 days...Guess I should ask them, huh?

I personally have owned LX and GX. I had a 1999 LX470 for 2 years, then traded it in for a 2004 GX470. I love the GX much better!

LX470:
Much wider, just enough room in the 2nd row seats to put 3 adults. Rear cargo area is much bigger than the GX. Acceleration is just OK.

GX470: Much better acceleration, due to the fact that it is 800lbs lighter. Just as much luxury than the LX. Smoother ride. 2nd roow seat is not comfortable for 3 adults. Rear seats are much easier to remove and put back.

My wife is very happy with the GX!

the "dirty" part of the gx is the thump, vibration, creaking seats, and kdss leaning (04 model only). as for the Lx, i'm not sure wat probs they've got.

how big are the adults you try to put in your second row??? i'm 6' and have had 2 adults around the same height in my second row (and 1 more in the third) with complete comfort. in fact, i didn't even have to move my seat up.

the lx and the gx are not that much different. the dimensions of the 2 are almost exactly the same. The lx is about 4.3 in longer, and only 2.4 in wider. The width difference does change the front and rear hip room, but you would not notice the added couple inches unless you were putting 3 people in the back. Besides, the gx has 2.5 in more rear leg room than the lx. if you want all the spec info go to www.edmunds.com and run a comparison of the two.

i love my gx. wouldn't trade it for any other suv out there. honestly, my dealer told me not to even bother looking at the lx. the only real difference between the two is the $$$ and there are not enough extras in the lx to back up the $15k more they charge for it.

To get both sides to the argument, I would also post this question in the LX forum.

I don't have an LX, but I do have an '04 Land Cruiser. Specs are listed below. If you're interested int he Nav version, I do know that the '04 LX/Land Cruiser had the next generation NAV that wasn't available in the '04 GX. See the link below.

MSN Auto or Kelly Blue Book. Also the Lexus site shows 5000/6500lb towing. I wonder if KDSS reduced the towing capacity?

For this comparison, please see this thread on my forum:

Note: the above thread deals more with "capability" rather than interior room or power.

I remember the sticker on my door shows GVWR 6150 lb, I will check this afternoon.

Maybe the one you checked has KDSS so the GVWR is lower, I don't know.
