How-To Tuesday: Changing Out Your Cabin Air Filter
Air, in theory, is good. But it can turn bad, particularly if your using an old cabin air filter. But this week’s How-To Tuesday article is here to show you how to change that bad air back to good.
Today’s article, and the corresponding video below, focuses on Lexus IS models between 2006 and 2014, but you may learn a thing or two, even if you drive another model.
The most important takeaway here is that your cabin air filter should be changed out every 3,000 or so miles, whether you’re doing it yourself (for around $20) or having a mechanic do the job for you (roughly $80). But this is a moderately easy DIY, so why not at least give it a shot?
Just make sure to remember one very easy, but oh-so-important step: turning on your car’s re-circulation mode before you get started. Failing to do so could result in thousands of dollars damage to your car’s HVAC system. But while it may be a critical step, it’s far from a hard one, as you simply push a button.
From there, it’s just a matter of finding and opening the access door in the glove compartment, removing the dirty filter cover and filter, and then replacing it with a new one. That’s it! And then you can go back to your former good air living.
