How-To Tuesday: Blacking Out Those Lexus Badges

lexus Black Pearl Style Emblems

Just because Lexus has many proven years of design expertise, that doesn’t always mean you agree with all their touches. Take for example the chrome emblems. They don’t have to be chrome, you know.

Today’s How-To Tuesday article, and the corresponding video below, will show you the best way to change those boring old chrome emblems into the super-stylized Black Pearl variety. And the whole process might just be the easiest thing you do this week, as it should only take about an hour of your time.

If you’re going to take the official route of purchasing Black Pearl Badging from Sewell, it could run you upwards of $400. Or you can also go the eBay way, or sometimes you can even get lucky on the Club Lexus forums. Or, if you want to save big money, you can create your own blacked-out emblems.

As outlined in this week’s article, once you’ve gathered the proper supplies, it’s just a matter of seven easy steps. Carefully jot down the location of the existing emblems, remove the emblems and the adhesive residue, coat the emblems n Plasti Dip, and apply double-sided tape. Then you just replace the emblems back to where they were, and clean up and maintain.

Boom! Just like that, your Lexus is a whole lot more menacing.
