Toyota Motor Corp Recalls Some 2010-2012 CT 200H Models
Around the auto industry, 2016 is shaping up to be the Year of the Recall, and we’re only half-way through.
This latest round of recall news affects our favorite marque, as Toyota Motor Corporation is recalling 3.37 million cars worldwide, including some Lexus CT 200h vehicles.
On Tuesday, Toyota announced it was recalling 1.43 million Prius and CT 200h models made made from 2010 to 2012 due to possible problems with air bag inflators. Then on Wednesday, the automaker added 2.87 million more cars for a different issue: faulty emissions control units. Since some of the Prius models are affected by both issues, the total number of new ToMoCo recalls sits at 3.37 million cars.
The CT 200h cars could have a small crack in a weld of the air bag inflator, which could potentially lead to inflator chambers becoming separated. The inflator, which isn’t made by major recall culprit Takata, could then inflate and find its way inside the vehicle, which could lead to injury.
The rest of the vehicles — 2006 to 2015 Toyota models including the Prius, Auris, and Corolla — have evaporative fuel emission control units that can crack, which can lead to expansion and then fuel leaks.
Fortunately, no injuries related to the issues have been reported. If you have questions as to whether your car is affected, please contact your local Lexus dealer.
