The Lexus NX: All the Details
Lexus’ littlest crossover got it’s official unveiling at the Beijing Autoshow over the weekend, and with it, we’ve got the details on what exactly Lexus has planned for this car.
The biggest news about the NX is the drivetrain, strangely enough. The Lexus NX 200t will be the first Lexus to come with a turbocharger. For the first time in Lexus’ history, they’re releasing a turbo, 2-liter, four-cylinder engine (in their SUV of all things.) It’ll be a twin scroll unit on a non-performance engine, so don’t expect Lancer Evolution style power numbers. Lexus says the turbo will make a respectable 235 horsepower, and over 250 lb-ft of torque. So no, you won’t be blowing to doors off the Porsche Macan anytime soon, but that’s really not what the NX is about. The F-Sport however… Could be promising.
Hybrids are still Lexus’ “thing,” so they’re offering a 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder for people who want the NX to burn fuel like a Prius. They’ll suffer a hit in the power department, however, with only 194 horsepower to pull you along.
This is an SUV though, which means, comfortable handling is as important as power. Lexus has equipped the NX with Adaptive Variable Suspension. F-Sport models will recieve a sportier, sharper suspension to go along with their edgy styling. Turbo models also have the option of a torque transferring AWD transmission. The system will adjust from front to all-wheel-drive for better cornering performance too. It’s not just for handling the off-road stuff.
