Supra Revival Moving Ahead ‘According to Plan’
For those waiting with bated breath for word, news, rumors, quotes, or anything to come out of people’s mouths who know anything about the new Supra, we’ve got a nice little tidbit to add fuel to your fire. According to Bloomberg, the joint sportscar venture between Toyota and BMW, the one said to revive the Supra nameplate, is “progressing according to plan.”
While we still don’t have details on what the cars will look like, how much they’ll be priced, or when we’ll actually get to see them, the two companies are supposedly finally happy with the design of the new car, and the project as a whole is moving along towards a production model.
Currently, we know that the sportscar will at the very least underpin the next BMW Z model. But that’s about all we know. There have been unconfirmed reports that point to the BMW/Toyota car using a hybrid all-wheel drive system, and paired to a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that produces more than 400 horsepower. Again though, these reports are unconfirmed. One clue that we recently dug up was a trademark filed by Toyota for the name S-FR, which the S could stand for Supra.
We’ll keep you updated with everything we find out, so stay tuned.
