‘Streetable’ SC300 Makes 9-Second Run at Rocky Mountain Race Week

Every year during Rocky Mountain Race Week, racers bring out their fastest “street cars” to compete in a five day event. Throughout the week they find themselves dealing with the logistics of getting to a different race track each day, and the harsh effects that can have on their cars.

A highlight from RMRW 2015 is this “streetable” 1993 Lexus SC300. If you didn’t catch the basic parts list from the video below, the SC300 gets its power from a rather stout 3.0-liter 2JZ fed by a Precision 7675 CEA turbo running 40 pounds of boost. Some extra aid comes from a 125-shot of nitrous to help the ’90s luxury sport-coupe crest 1,000 horsepower. A TH400 transmission and a pair of slicks get the power to ground – launching the car through the quarter mile at a best time of 9.32 seconds and a trap speed of 149.65 mph.

Even though the Lexus didn’t make it to the end of the week due to mechanical issues, we’re fairly certain it left an impression on spectators and fellow racers with its pleasing-to-the-ears turbo whistles and wastegate chatter. Doing burnouts while pulling a parts-trailer is pretty sweet, too.
