How to Road Trip Prep a 900k Mile Lexus
I love a good long road trip, but I respect the gremlins of the road and fully believe in properly prepping a machine for the long haul. But despite the many decrepit machines I have slogged for thousands of miles across this great country, even I have no experience with anything that is remotely close to a Lexus with 900,000 miles on the clock.
As any good The Smoking Tire fan knows, Matt Farah recently bought a 1996 Lexus LS400 with such an outrageous odometer. Now fellow gearhead and Jalopnik contributor Tavarish has the car in New Jersey, and he’s prepping it to trek across the States to reach Los Angeles.
Tavarish documented the list of fixes and alterations he made in a nice long post that covers everything from simple oil changes to correcting the sins of car stereos past. He even does dash repairs for better air conditioning efficiency. It’s a good read overall and it promises to help make sure this Lexus does actually hit that big 7-digit mark.
We are all wishing the big Lexus luck on the journey, and of course we’ll be following along closely. May the ghost of Eiji Toyotda watch over you on this journey.
