Jeremy Clarkson on the RC F: "Hate to Admit I Quite Like It."

All car enthusiasts know about Top Gear--and plenty of people who aren't obsessed with cars still know who Jeremy Clarkson is. Love him or hate him, he's never shy about his opinions, and he posted this gem a few days ago regarding the new RC F:

This is an impressive statement from the famously snarky presenter--especially given how much he used to bash Lexus in the past. But hey, things can change right? And this isn't the first time Clarkson has praised Lexus. Just last year, after spending time in the LFA, he declared the Lexus supercar "the best car I've ever driven." Coming from a guy who gets to hop behind the wheel of all kinds of supercars day in and day out, it's quite a compliment on the
efforts of Lexus.

Clarkson's remark is yet another sign how Lexus is evolving, and focusing on building cars which not only look good, but are also fun to drive. The IS F paved the road, the LFA set the tone, and now it's about execution. The RC F is going to be the third Lexus wearing the F badge, and seems like it's one highly anticipated car. Bring it, Lexus!

Richie Oshiro (Fri, 07 Feb 2014 08:08:30 -0800): Aside from the LFA comment, Jeremy's comment about the new RC-F is such a backwards compliment. That's like saying....."you know, with makeup on, you look really pretty today." That's not a compliment and neither is this one. Nice try Jeremy.
Nick Keller (Tue, 18 Feb 2014 16:04:38 -0800): That is not at all an anology that makes any sense. He is saying he hates to be on the side of a brand he normally doesn't support aside from the LFA
Andres Castillo (Tue, 18 Feb 2014 16:17:42 -0800): To me it's more of a... "I hate the brand but I admit I like the car..." So a compliment from someone that may normally be biased not to compliment this brand.
Peter McCann (Tue, 18 Feb 2014 16:33:39 -0800): The RC F has the same basic drive line as the early IS F he crapped on. He especially hated the 8 speed gearbox, which by now has quite a few imitators, and shifts faster than just about anything but a F1 car. BTW, I own a '11 IS F, and love it. There's something special about the Yamaha F1 program tuned Lexus V8. IMO Lexus did an excellent job on the IS F as a complete package, with more track development than any other car in Toyota history. Initial IS F comparisons would have been much better had the 2011 revisions-the Torsen LSD and suspension changes which transformed the car, and should have been there initially. I will also own a RC F, regardless of what falls out of Clarkson's mouth. Every time he drives a BMW, I can't help but wonder if they keep a new model or two in his garage, replaced frequently. Of course, these guys never have to worry about repairs, which is definitely something to consider for we mere mortals. Competition is good, and it's about to get better.
Don Eilenberger (Tue, 18 Feb 2014 17:23:31 -0800): This really seems to bring out the insecurity of Lexus owners vs brands with a more driver oriented image. Guys - get over it. If you like the Lexus - that's nice. I like SWMBO's Lexus RX, but I like my Porsche and BMW M-Coupe more. And my BMW bike more than any of them. They're ALL good - the Lexus doesn't break. The Porsche and BMW don't bore me (and the seats are more comfortable.) Her need was a vehicle that doesn't break - ever. The RX seems to be the right candidate. The cars are "just transportation" (motorhead points for where that quote originated..) Bikes are interesting.
Grant Harvey (Wed, 19 Feb 2014 03:18:00 -0800): That's not at all what he is saying. It's just poor reading comprehension on your part.
Henri De Wolff (Wed, 19 Feb 2014 18:55:45 -0800): Lexus better get a new "nose". It is just a horrible design and does nothing for the best rated car in the world. Maybe BMW can help you design one !!
David Bonner (Thu, 03 Apr 2014 12:24:02 -0700): Nobody here seems to remember that Jeremy Clarkson liked the gen 2 IS250 automatic. I bought one on his advice. After a long paragraph about how his wife didn't like it, he says, "I did", and goes on about how the suspension is excellent and all the buttons feeling they were made to last a thousand years. And I found his description to be spot on, and love my IS250 for the exact same reasons. And he also liked the GS450F, called it "a hybrid with a purpose". And his compliments on the LFA go beyond just the car, he really shows admiration for the whole operation behind it.
Ernest Benedek (Wed, 06 Aug 2014 17:18:15 -0700): I had a few german built cars nothing but fixing never again i couldn't be happier than with Lexus I love my Lexus's !!!!LEXUS Forever !!!!!!!!
