RC F Has Its Defenders
Lexus’s RC F hasn’t exactly been the apple of every automotive journalist’s eye. Many seem to agree that as far as power to weight goes, it’s not quite where it needs to be. But is that reason enough to dismiss the car? Obviously, as a Lexus enthusiast, we’re all inclined to say no. But it’s not like we can ignore the auto writers altogether. Thankfully, we don’t have to. Because Jeff Perez of BoldRide has the RC F’s back.
In a piece titled “In Defense of the Lexus RC F,” Perez backs up his positive 2014 review of the performance coupe, even though time has shown that he’s “one of the few journalists that does really truly like this thing.”
While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, it’s good to know that Perez is standing firm, even in the face of some disagreement. What’s interesting about Perez’s defense is that he’s not exactly defending the RC F’s performance. He acknowledges the car’s “many performance faults” right up at the top. And though he does get into some praise of the what the RC F is physically, he seems more enamored by what it represents.
“Lexus is just getting their feet wet in the performance department. Granted, they still have some work to do, but the transformation gap from IS F to RC F is about as far a distance from here to the moon. The RC F shows signs of real performance potential in one of the hardest segments around. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good sign of things to come,” writes Perez.
Sure, Perez isn’t exactly reviewing the car that is, but rather the car that it can potentially be. But at least he’s speaking our language.
