Power Failure: Did Lexus Try Hard Enough With Lexus GS F?
With exotic styling and a mighty free-breathing V8 engine, the RC F is a true performance machine. So when rumors began swirling that Lexus was preparing a crazy go-fast F model that would bring the same level of petrol-headed lunacy to the larger GS sedan, it obviously created a storm of excitement.
And the rumors have proved true, Lexus dropped the GS F bomb. But to be honest? I think it’s a bit underwhelming. And given what I’ve seen on the forums, I’m not the only who feels this way.
Whereas the RC F was a whole new fresh take on the formula, the GS F feels almost like a cop-out. While we get the same V8 engine from the RC F, it makes no extra horsepower. Seriously, it should have been relatively easy for Lexus to squeeze a few more ponies out of the mill, if only so the GS F wouldn’t look identical to its two door sibling on paper.
There are a few of you that like the new headlights with the separated LED, and the wheels are pretty universally loved, but it seems like this GS F is just missing that bit of magic that makes us want one.
I’ll reserve my final judgement until I get a chance to drive one, but with things like the new 600+ horsepower Cadillac ATS and 700 horsepower Charger Hellcat on the market, the GS F seems a little limp.
