[Updated] Everything That Happened in the Lexus Insta-Built Contest

Lexus-Instabuild-Final.jpg
All the votes have been counted, and all the modifications for the Lexus Insta-Built RC F have been finalized. It looks sick in the rendering, but I can’t imagine it does the track toy justice. LexusUsa’s post on Instagram says they’ll be giving us updates on the progress of the build, so we can look forward to plenty of pics of it in the shop.

One thing we haven’t heard about yet? Power increases or suspension tweaks. Here’s what the description of the winning “Track” description said about the plans: “Do we create a more intense version of the RC F by adding a few hp, tightening up the suspension, and making this coupe even stickier?”
So it sounds like there’s still more in store for the Lexus SEMA car, the only question is how long we’ll have to wait to find out what they’re doing under the hood? Regardless, stay tuned. There’s sure to be more news about the Insta-Built Contest before it hits the show floor in Sin City!

[Update: If you’re confused, the red box means option two took the win.] The RC F Lexus is building for SEMA is almost done! There’s only one choice left to make, and this time tomorrow we’ll know exactly how the booth car will look. So head over to Instagram to vote on which steering wheel you’d like to see on the RC F:

1. Alcantara grips, carbon fiber, Seafoam Green and Gun Metal Gray accents.

2. Alcantara grips, carbon fiber and Seafoam Green accents.

3. Black leather, Seafoam Green accent.

4. Alcantara grips, Gun Metal Gray accent.

I don’t think there’s any decision at all here. The number one option is hands down the coolest–the body-color top dead center marker is just too hot! We’ll have an update tomorrow on which we’ll see on the SEMA car tomorrow.

Seats
The seat poll was a runaway victory for the Sabelt SPS seats–and that makes total sense. Sure, if all this baby was going to do is tear up the track” Then some of the bulkier, less accommodating chairs might have been a little more attractive. That said, the Instagram crowd made the right call here.

Exterior Mods
The RC F’s sheet metal is already pretty trick, but the SEMA car was getting some slick bits–in the way of a front lip, side skirts, and a rear lip spoiler–to make it pop even more. Users had three color choices, Black, Seafoam Green, or Gun Metal Gray–which won the day.

Brakes

If you’re going to drink, you have to eat, and if you’re going to go, you have to stop. And that’s where Brembo stepped into this build. Since both calipers were identical save for the color, this round couldn’t have been simpler–black or white? And black won the day.

Tires

Unless we’re talking about swimmers, athletes need the right set of shoes–and the RC F is no different. In this round of voting the users of Instagram selected the Nitto’s luxury sport ultra high performance Invo tire. Here’s to a short, but happy, life for this rubber.

Wheels

At the time, I liked the no nonsense look of number three, but all the Vossen wheel options in this round of voting were way sick. After all the comments were tallied, the number one CVT beat out number two  VFS1, the number three CV7 and the number four VFS2 to earn a coveted spot on the SEMA RC F.

Paint
I’d have been happy with any of the choices here–except Cherry Red. Because I think red should be reserved for Italian cars. In the end, Seafoam Green beat out CR and MB to take the win. It’s the perfect level of flash for a sexy track-tuned car.

Style

Track won out over the two other options, Drift–which would have involved gutting the interior–and VIP, which seemed a cruel fate for a car as spirited as the RC F.
