Lexus battles to second place. Team finishes in the points at season opener in Daytona.
|BALTIMORE, Maryland - Team Lexus - Performance Engineering finished second in the Motorola Cup season opener at the Daytona International Speedway.|
The afternoon race on Friday, February 4, boasted an entry list of nearly 70 cars. Driving the #9 GS 400, Chuck Goldsborough and Chris Gleason took the checkered flag a close second to the class winner.
"The team overcame some major obstacles this week," said Goldsborough. "I can't remember a race in which both the crew and the drivers worked this hard...I'm happy with the result."
Team Lexus outfitted both cars with the new dry break fuel system. The new equipment greatly reduces refueling times during pit stops. A last minute problem with the system in the #9 car prevented it from taking the green flag with its sister car, the #90, and the rest of the field. "You never want to start a race from the pits," said Gleason, "but this team has proven, once again, that we can handle all kinds of situations... this was a hard fought second place."
At the start of its second season of competition, Team Lexus has finished on the podium five times in ten races. The team gave Lexus its first ever motorsports victory in September of 1999 and they currently hold two track records. Team Lexus - Performance Engineering is sponsored by Lexus (a division of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.), Mike Higham's Lexus of Annapolis, Coale Truck Transport, ProTrac suspensions, Motormat, JLG Leasing, Level 10, Bertil Roos Racing School, Hypercoils, Spirit Graphics, Phil's Bar, Red Line Products, R&R Autobody, Alpine Bagels and Brews, the Gleason Group, Data Clean, U1st and Simpson.
