5 Million Toyota & Lexus Hybrids Worldwide
Lexus’ parent company Toyota Motor Corporation has reached a milestone in the automotive industry today. Five million hybrid vehicles have been sold worldwide. Two million hybrids have been sold in the United States which accounts for 40 percent of global hybrid sales. The 2006 Lexus RX 400h was the first luxury hybrid vehicle to contribute to that number.
When Toyota offered the first luxury hybrid vehicle about 17 years ago, a sense of uncertainty loomed around the auto industry about how well gas and electric powered vehicles would last. There are 34 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere and over 3 billion gallons of gas saved thanks to Toyota and Lexus hybrids. Since 1997, there are now 19 different Toyota & Lexus vehicles offered worldwide.
With Lexus being a leader in hybrid technology, almost every luxury manufacturer has their take on a luxury hybrid vehicle. Lexus now offers seven different hybrid vehicles worldwide in which Lexus has been a leader in their respective segments. Since the first RX 400h, we now have hybrid luxury and hybrid F Sport versions of these key Lexus offerings. Congratulations to Toyota and Lexus for this historic milestone.
