The 2011 Lexus RX review is sure to impress those interested in purchasing a new Lexus. The new line of RX vehicles are certified ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV II), and the hybrid versions are certified as super ultra-low emission vehicles (SULEV II).

Models

This vehicle comes in four versions: the RX 350 FWD ($34,728), the RX 350 AWD ($35,995), the RX 450h FWD ($39,980) and the RX 450h AWD ($41,426). All models offer independent MacPherson struts with inversely wound coil-springs, gas pressurized shock absorbers and stabilizer bar within the front suspension. The rear suspension of each model incorporates gas pressurized shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. They all feature a V6, 3.5-liter engine with dual over-head cam and 4-valves per cylinder. They are specified to carry five passengers, and have a cargo capacity of 80 cubic feet.

Standard Features 

The standard luxury features include: Walnut interior trim in either espresso bird's-eye maple or brown, leather trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, 10-way adjustable power seats with lumbar support, and adjustable headrests in front, reclining/sliding rear seat, premium sound system including 9-speaker sound, automatic sound levelizer (ASL), illuminated entry system, automatic on/off headlamps with auto-off dimming, outside temperature gauge, interior fuel-door release, dual zone automatic climate control with air filtration system, and HomeLink universal transceiver for remote operation of garage/gate/home lighting/home security systems.

Optional Packages

Navigation System with 12-Speaker Audio Package for $2,575. This includes a hard drive NAV system with voice command, color LCD display, integrated backup camera, enhanced Bluetooth technology and remote control. A Rear Seat Entertainment System and NAV Package costs $5,615. This package includes dual screen DVD system, HDD NAV system (same as for the 12-speaker system above), wireless headphones, audio and video inputs, and AC power outlet. The Premium Package costs $2,400 and includes a leather-trimmed interior, power tilt and slide moon-roof, Lexus Memory System provides memorized settings for seats, mirrors and steering wheel, USB iPod input and electrochromic (automatic dimming) outside mirrors.

Safety Features

The Lexus RX incorporates a four-wheel, power assisted disk brake system with anti-lock braking, electronic brakeforce distribution, and brake assist. It offers vehicle stability control (VSC), smart-stop technology, water repelling front-door glass, fog-lights, variable intermittent front/rear wipers, 3-point seatbelt system, child restraint seats, tether anchor brackets, side-impact door beams, collapsible brake pedal and steering column, front seating airbags and side airbags, front and rear Roll-Sensing Curtain airbags, theft-deterrent system with engine immobilizer, tool kit and a first aid kit.

Industry Reviews


The Lexus RX tested "Good" in all four areas of the IIHS testing. Generally considered expensive, the Lexus RX is also reported to be a quality vehicle that is reliable and exhibits very few mechanical problems. It is reported to have a smooth, comfortable ride and handles well through a variety of road conditions. The interior lives up to its luxury status, and passengers are not disturbed by highway noises.
