New RC F Virtual Drive App Revs High

Wanna sit shotgun in a race-tuned RC F with the most powerful road-ready V8 Lexus has ever produced? Wanna do so without risking your life as some petrolhead tries to push it around a hairpin turn? Wanna experience one of the world’s elite tracks, Spain’s Ascari, without having to go to all the trouble of flying there?

Now, thanks to the Lexus Virtual Drive app, you can do all that and more. As a means of virtually test driving a new RC F rocket ship, Lexus is giving away the app at both Google Play and the App Store.

And it’s bonkers. As you can see in the screengrab above, not only can you choose between the two best colors around (especially if you’re a Denver Broncos/Syracuse Orange fan), but you can go for either the smooth ride or the aggressive one, depending on what type of racing you’re in the mood for. Either way, you’re talking about a race-tuned RC F with a 5.0 litre V8 with 477 hp that hammers out 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reaches a max speed of 270 km/h. (Sorry, we’re going with kilometers here, folks; we are racing in Europe.)

I was just eating my lunch, but instead of scrolling through the latest prattle, I was holding on for all that’s dear as some helmeted hoon took me for the ride of my life. With the sound cranked up to 11, I honestly felt like I was going a hundred miles per hour. I could barely keep my turkey taco down.

Like the car itself, this app falls squarely into the “how the heck did they do that” department. It’s virtually mind-boggling. You actually have control of what you’re watching on the screen. You can watch the driver, the cars around you, or your feet, if you’re so inclined. It doesn’t make any sense!

What does make sense, though, is why Lexus is offering the app on the sales site, with plenty of links available to go get your actual purchasing started. Because as soon as you’re done virtually driving the RC F with the Virtual Drive app, odds are pretty good you’re going to want to really drive one.
