New LF-LC Concept Debuts In Blue

As promised, Lexus has released a (kinda) new coupe in Australia yesterday: The LF-LC Blue Concept. Originally we were expecting a completely new car, but since the LF-CC was revealed a couple of weeks ago, this makes more sense.

I can’t help but feel a teeny bit let down. The LF-LC has been out for a while now, and while I think that it’s a svelte piece of machinery, I was expecting a them to do a little bit more than a color swap. That said, the color is gorgeous. Lexus is calling it Opal Blue, after the precious stones found in… you guessed it, Australia. They’ve changed the interior lighting to match the new color, but otherwise left it alone. Which is a good thing because it’s still amazing. So looks wise all is well. But that’s not the most interesting thing here. At the reveal, Lexus also revealed details about the concept’s hybrid drivetrain. Like how much power it makes.

They officially rate it at 500hp after mixing both electric and traditional power supplies. Easily, this is the most powerful hybrid that Toyota has built thus far. It also has a smaller battery pack than any other Lexus hybrid, meaning that it’s weight probably won’t be upset that much by the extra hardware.

More than anything, this newest LF-LC is a preview of the tech that Lexus will be dropping into their cars in the near future. We’ve already seen them move towards larger screens in the new GS, and we suspect that the 12.3″ LCD will eventually make it’s way into their cars soon. The same thing goes for their in-car software. The screen displays temperature and fuel and will even tell you how “green” your driving style is. An eco gauge seems out of place in a sports car, but reasonable for something like the Ct200h.
