MotorWeek Truly Impressed by 2015 Lexus RC F

As far as image goes, the RC F is probably the most important model for Lexus right now. And so it’s important to score well with all the most important media outlets. MotorWeek, “television’s original automotive magazine,” is certainly one of those, so we were eager to watch the newly posted 2015 Lexus RC F Road Test video below.

We’ll admit, we were nervous when the venerable TV show notes early on that Lexus’s prior forays into the performance market have been “more like a karate chop at a gun fight.” But things definitely pick up from there, as all of MotorWeek‘s track-seasoned testers were more than impressed by the new RC F’s “great V8 bark and nimble chassis bite.”

After that bit of Emmy-worthy writing, it’s mostly praise about all the finer points we’re starting to know and love, like the direct shift automatic transmission, the torque-vectoring rear differential, and the way she handles around town.

Aside from a couple of nitpicks, the reviewers only found one thing really wrong with the car: the underwhelming brakes.

Still, MotorWeek was plenty impressed. They even conclude the piece by noting that the RC F is indeed comparable to the BMW M4:

“The 2015 Lexus RC F may be a bit cheaper, but is it also a close contender? Well, we think it is surprisingly close on the street, and yes, on the track as well. Who ever thought we would say that! And that is just how far Lexus performance has come.”

While we love that MotorWeek concludes the segment as such, we’re even more thrilled about the fact that the more big outlets come around to the F being a true performance competitor, the more smaller outlets do as well. Take Torque News, for example, who after seeing MotorWeek‘s Road Test, was big enough to change their tune about the RC F being a viable track car:

“So is the new 2015 Lexus RC F competitive with the BMW M4 on a racetrack? Looking at the evidence, we have to say our initial report saying it was not seems incorrect. There are now three trusted sources who used professional drivers to test the cars on racetracks who say that indeed the two cars are comparable.”

Now that’s a powerfully good Road Test video.
