‘Smoking Tire’ Cruises Hawaii in LC 500

If you’re the jealous type, you may not want to watch the video above. That is because The Smoking Tire scribe Matt Farah is seen driving the 2018 Lexus LC 500 around the coast of Hawaii, and it will definitely make you envious.
The video will also make you far more informed about all the things that make the LC 500 such a keeper. That’s because Lexus put a boatload of effort into their new 2+2 flagship coupe, which Farah clearly sees. And he’s one of the most knowledgeable and personable reviewers around. Although he may have forgotten about the LFA while trying to recall another Lexus that cost over a hundred grand.
“This car feels like a hundred grand. It’s the first Lexus, as far as I know, to actually cost a hundred grand. But it does feel very expensive and very high quality,” says Farah.
Of course, the LC’s base price is $92K. But Farah has his hands on an LC fitted with the optional Performance Pack, which costs around $104K. And he obviously likes the car’s limited-slip diff, variable geometry steering ratio, optional rear-steer, and carbon fiber roof. We’ll let Farah explain the many, many other reasons he loves the “personal luxury coupe,” as the Lexus marketing folks have taken to calling it.
Unfortunately, you can’t get an LC just yet. But out of all the early review videos, this one gives you the best sense of being in the car. That’s thanks to the dual-camera set up The Smoking Tire (Farah’s production company) employs. They set up one camera on the reviewer, and the other on the road. And they get the sound right too, which is important when you’re talking about the LC’s 471-horsepower, naturally-aspirated V8.
It’s certainly safe to say that Farah loves the car. Or at least he has no problem saying as much in exchange for the free trip to Hawaii. Regardless of the payola involved, though, we’ve seen enough from Matt to know he’s a stand-up guy. And we also know he’s not a good enough actor to mimic the pure joy he shows while driving Lexus’s new LC 500.
