LX570 Almost Beats Everyone in Motor Trend’s Large Luxury SUV Comparison
The good news is that in a mucho grande Motor Trend comparo, the Lexus LX570 beat the tires off three other mucho grande luxury SUVs: theInfiniti QX80, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Land Rover Range Rover HSE. The bad news is that it got beat by the Mercedes-Benz GL450 and the Cadillac Escalade Platinum.
Oh, maybe I should have said, “spoiler alert.” Or maybe I just saved you five pages of reading?
As Motor Trend points out, it’s hard to make a bad choice in this category. But they also point out “that some choices are better than others.” Because of the many good choices though, the team of editors did have some trouble agreeing, especially on the LX.
Why is the LX so polarizing, you ask? Mainly because of the big lux Lex’s “off-road priorities.” Yep, too much truck for these softies. Or at least some of those softies, the ones not impressed by the LX’s seemingly questionable priorities.
Motor Trend‘s editors seem to likes the LX’s hydraulic suspension setup and its acceleration, and those who aren’t questioning its priorities seem to like the overall truckness.
The editors are decided in one area though: the LX’s performance straight lining capabilities, where its numbers were last in both the 0-60 and the quarter-mile. And MT‘s not very nice about the brake pedal feel either.
Here’s the main gist, as far as Lexus is concerned, though:
“Look, if you need to pre-run the Baja 1000 or compete in the Paris-Dakar Rally, the LX 570 is the obvious choice. But for pulling up to South Coast Plaza in gilded luxury? Not so much.”
Obviously, a third place finish means Motor Trend is being a bit dramatic there, as a third place finish shows. And personally, pre-running the Baja 1000 in an LX570 sounds pretty darn awesome.
