Fuel Sippers Collide: Lexus NX 300h Hybrid Versus BMW X3 xDrive28d
Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time again for another head to head battle of Lexus vs BMW. Thankfully this isn’t yet another super coupe face-off. Instead of retreading that ground, AutoGuide has taken to deciding which fuel-sipping crossover is the better buy: the Lexus NX 300h hybrid or the BMW X3 xDrive28d diesel.
The two cars trade blows continually throughout the comparison video below, making the task of deciding a winner a difficult one. The Lexus has more horsepower, the BMW more torque. The NX has a more comfortable ride, but the X3 has more comfortable seats and more interior space. Fuel economy is the same story with the Lexus taking top honors in the city and the BMW dominating on the highway.

AutoGuide likes the vastly superior level of equipment in the NX, and prefers the way it looks, but in the end they gave the nod to the X3 for its more engaging drive and bountiful torque. The universal weakness of the NX seems to be that hybrid system. AutoGuide just felt that the machine was underpowered and unexciting compared to the X3.
The Lexus did take took top honors in a recent MotorTrend test that included the turbo gasoline versions of the NX and X3. But still, diesel torque is too good to miss out on.
