Lexus UX Utilizes Hologram Tech Well Before ‘Minority Report’ Predictions
Anyone whose seen Minority Report knows that Lexus would be utilizing hologram technology at some point in the future. We just didn’t realize it would be so soon.
Debuting this weekend at the Paris Motor Show is the Lexus UX, a concept SUV that looks very much like the future. According to Business Insider, “Lexus is teasing a future where the driver’s instrumentĀ could be replaced by an interactive hologram globe.”
There would also be hologram displays where the air conditioning and infotainment cases are normally located on the center console. And there’s another display on the dash, with a soundbar below it that can be removed and used as a portable speaker.
Yet another hologram display works in conjunction with the car’s cameras, including the ones that replace the side mirrors. Which could certainly prove to be useful tech, considering Japanese automakers are now allowed to “make and sell mirrorless cars.”
Obviously, Princess Leia isn’t going to pop out of your Lexus’s dash looking for Obi-wan any time soon. But you can certainly see how holograms could work as a means of providing information and entertainment in the very-near future, right?
