Lexus Tops American Customer Satisfaction Index Survey
As a Lexus driver, odds are pretty good you’re pretty darn enthused about your car. That may sound like a presumptuous statement made by a guy whose job it is to write good things about Lexus, but the marque didn’t take top honors in the American Customer Satisfaction Index survey for nothing.
That’s right, folks, chalk up another award for Lexus!
Please feel free to take a second to pat yourself on the back for owning such a satisfying ride.
Now that you’ve had a moment to gloat, let’s take a closer look at the numbers. In order to come up with their Lexus-loving stats, the ACSI surveyed roughly 5,000 recent car buyers from April to June of this year. All participants were asked to rank their cars between 0 and 100.
With an average score of 84, Lexus ranked the highest, followed by three brands tied at 83: Acura, Lincoln, and Mercedes-Benz. BMW, Subaru, and Lexus’s proud parent, Toyota, came in third with average scores of 82.
As for the other side of the satisfaction spectrum, well, let’s just say Fiat Chrysler failed to impress. Fiat itself was the bigger loser, with a score of 73, while siblings Chrysler and Jeep earned scores of 74 and 75, respectively.
While this is a great honor indeed, and a well-deserved one that, it’s not all great news. Lexus’s score would earn just a solid B in most high schools; that’s not how you get into an elite school. And it’s the exact same score as last year, when Lexus tied for third with Volkswagen, behind both Mercedes-Benz and Subaru. So the the declining scores of the competition combined with the status quo of Lexus is what essentially factors into this win. And declining satisfaction scores have been an American trend lately; this year’s satisfaction poll is the second lowest in ACSI’s history.
Still, a win is a win. And obviously Lexus’s status quo is better than the rest.
