Lexus Set to Expand to World’s Second Largest Country
Many automakers have their eyes set on China. Being one of the fastest growing economies on the face of the Earth, it makes sense for automakers to want to sell their wares there. But there are a lot more people around the world that will soon be buying cars, so Lexus is looking to seize the opportunity by launching in India.
According to Team-BHP, Lexus will open its doors in India next year. India is the second largest country in the world based on population, and they are quickly growing into consumers of automobiles.
Lexus has a lot to gain by being a premium brand in India, as well. When we think of Indian cars, we probably think of tiny city cars, like the Tata Nano, which is cheap (and not exactly safe) transportation. Lexus would be one of the first premium brands in the country, and Lexus vehicles would promote their safety as much as their luxury features.
I believe Lexus could do very well in India. Toyota’s success could be in the smaller, safer, and more affordable transportation, while Lexus targets the premium buyer. With 1.25 billion people, grabbing just a small percentage of the transportation buying public could be a huge win for Toyota and Lexus.
