Lexus Sets Number for Domestic 2018 LC 500 Deliveries
Spring of 2017 may seem like a long way off, but if you’re hoping to purchase the upcoming Lexus LC 500, you may want to think ahead.
According to Wards Auto, Lexus is only planning on making 6,600 models of the 2018 LC 500, with only some 4,000 of those making their way to the U.S.
Chief Engineer Koji Sato tells Wards that all of those LC coupes will be made on Toyota’s GA-L platform, as well as all future Lexus RWD models (and their AWD brethren): the LS, GS, IS, and RC. The platform allows for much greater torsional and chassis rigidity.
And of course the LC 500 will be packed with all the latest-greatest Lexus developments, like a new triple LED headlamp unit, updated safety package, and a 10-speed automatic transmission. All for a base price of less than $100,000, which situates the car nicely among its competitors.
Judging from all the buzz around the new convertible grand tourer, as well as how much oomph Lexus is putting behind the hopeful halo, we can assume demand will be high. Certainly Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin believes it will be.
“We have such a big following here in the U.S. So many of our loyal customers would like to have a car like this,” he says.
Of course, the LC 500 should have a high degree of exclusivity, so you don’t want to make too many. But bear in mind, Lexus imported 7,165 units of the exclusive-in-its-own-right LS model last year, the marque’s already established halo car. So does that 4,000 number seem low to you?
