Lexus LC F to Debut at Tokyo Auto Show?
Source Says Car to Be Revealed in October…but will It?
A hotter, performance-oriented version of Lexus’ new coupe, the LC F, is one of the worst kept secrets in recent history. When the automaker filed for the “LC F” trademark just a couple of weeks ago, its existence was all but a given. Besides, the idea just makes too much sense for it not to happen. Why wouldn’t Lexus built a high(er) performance version of its new halo car?
And now we have further information about the LC F’s existence, thanks to the intrepid reporting of Car & Driver. C&D‘s Lexus source told the mag that the car is indeed real, and that it will make its debut appearance at October’s Tokyo Auto Show. Not long after that news hit, however, Lexus reportedly told The Drive that the information is unfounded. Nevertheless, we’re skeptical, and our love of Lexus makdes us want to believe that it is actually true. And if so, we wonder just how hot will the latest F coupe be? How about 600 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, courtesy of a twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8?
The powerplant is an all-new piece, essentially two 2.0 liter turbocharged 8AR four cylinders fitted together at 90 degrees. A 10-speed automatic backs up the new mill. And the same engine will power Lexus’ GS F, albeit detuned to around 550 horsepower.
Of course, the LC F won’t just have more power going for it. Special visual cues include a body kit with plenty of vents and air ducts, a front splitter, and the obligatory rear wing. It will roll on 20-inch wheels with the latest supercar rubber, which will cover massive six-piston brake calipers.
The only bad news is that all of this won’t come cheap. C&D speculates that the LC F could potentially cost twice as much as the regular LC 500. That would push the price close to the $200,000 mark. That’s a lot of coin, but the LC F is also a lot of car.
