The Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept is Simply Crazy

Although it’s no secret that car seats have come a very long way in recent decades, this new seat concept by Lexus is daffy and looks like it belongs in a Marvel comic. Maybe that’s what Lexus is going for, no?

This is the Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept, and it’s set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show later this month, but one doesn’t have to wait until then to be puzzled by its design and overall look.

According to Lexus, the Kinetic Seat is designed to become one with the driver, and therefore allow the driver and other occupants to drive much more comfortably for longer periods of time. To do so, they’ve followed the basic structure basics of the human body, such as the spine’s role in keeping the head stable. The spine also allows the pelvis and chest to rotate in opposite directions while keeping the head in place during driving, walking or other activities. Now, this is all according to Lexus; so for any medical or scientific discrepancies, take it up with them, and not me.

Similar to the bungee cord chair I’m currently sitting on, the Kinetic Seat uses upholstery that consists of a spider’s web-pattern net that stretches from the center of the seat to the outer edges. The material may look like black rubber, but it’s actually made from environmentally friendly synthetic spider silk materials! So it’s sort of a real-life spidey-seat.

The goal is to allow the body to contour and rest on the seat much easier than on a modern car seat, and for the driver to absorb less energy shocks from the road, thus keeping him or her in much better shape after a long day at the wheel.

Would you get this seat on your future Lexus?
