Lexus Dives Into the Scene at San-Diego Comic-Con
Comic-con is that wonderful time of year when adults can head to San Diego, set aside all their worldly responsibilities, and just be their best costume-clad self for a few days. It’s a celebration of all things nerdy, geeky, and just plain strange. So what the heck does the annual alien-mother of all comic conventions have to with Lexus, a brand that really isn’t any of those things?
Well, Lexus is yet againĀ teaming up with Adult Swim, the late-night version of the Cartoon Network, to bring the popular Free Rides program back to San Diego Comic-Con 2015. Basically, five ‘toon-wrapped Lexus CT Hybrids will take to the streets of the the Gaslight District over the course of the long weekend, offering free rides to anyone over 18, as long as they have a destination and no food or drink.
After walking that massive, money-sucking convention hall, any ride probably sounds good; so you can imagine how far the goodwill goes when you offer up a free one. Especially when its a styled-out Lexus with a plush interior, replete with screens showing all the best Adult Swim and Lexus-branded content.
Lexus will also be integrated into Adult Swim, TBS, and CONAN through digital, on-air, and social components. So it should figure to be a good bit of Lexus exposure throughout the course of Comic-Con.
Of course, Lexus is no stranger to the Comic-Con excitement. Besides the Free Rides program, last year Lexus teamed up with Marvel to create a limited print, SDCC exclusive comic called “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Chase #1”. As you can see in the gallery below, the comic centers around Agent Coulson’s elite S.H.I.E.L.D. team and their go-to spymobile, the Lexus GX.
So why would Lexus go to such great lengths to woo people who traditionally spend more money on costumes than cars? Because the geeks rule the world, and we want the rulers driving a Lexus, don’t we?
