Lexus Cars Ravaged in Australian Dealership Fire
Don’t you just hate it when bad things happen to good cars?
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened in Queensland, Australia on Monday, as a local dealership went up in flames, and “multiple” cars were burned.
The blaze, which caused street closures and the evacuation of close to 100 neighboring businesses, started on the roof of the dealership at about 7:00 a.m., and wasn’t put out until about 9:20 in the morning. According to the local ABC affiliate, businesses remained closed for some time as authorities tested the air for toxic fumes.
Fortunately, it doesn’t sound as if anyone was injured. And fire fighters were able to save most of the building, and presumably its precious cargo. But some poor Lexus cars weren’t so lucky.
“Multiple cars have been on fire plus there’s been a partial ceiling collapse and substantial smoke damage, but we’ve saved a large percentage of the building,” said station officer Clint Craperi.
Apparently part of the reason the damage was so extensive was because firefighters couldn’t open the dealership’s electrical doors, since the power had been cut off. Perhaps they should have had a hybrid system?
Alas, as is, the dealership will be closed until further notice.
