Lexus carjacking

Criminal’s Troubles Began When He Realized Lexus RX SUV had Automatic Transmission

The first generation of the Lexus RX SUV was one of the few vehicles of its kind that actually felt like a car to drive, says Car and Driver regarding a 2000 test where the outlet compared a RX 300 against seven other SUVs. The RX 300 managed to come in third thanks to its agile, sporty ride and good looks. The first-gen RX SUV, then, was a SUV that was easy for owners to love, as one unfortunate owner recently found out firsthand.

 Lexus carjacking

An unlucky U.K. Lexus RX owner in East Yorkshire found himself being ordered out of his vehicle by an armed carjacker who tapped a pistol on the windshield of his vehicle, reports Britain’s The Sun.

Barry Storey, the 58-year-old owner of the RX, says the perpetrator ran in front of his vehicle after slowing down traffic when the owner was on his way to work in the morning.

“He pulled this gun at me and shouted at me to get out,” said Storey. “He tapped the gun on the window.” Once out of the vehicle, Storey claims the thief had some trouble getting the car going–and try to hold your laugh–because of the vehicle’s automatic transmission.

Before the carjacker managed to set off in the vehicle, a woman got out of her Audi and ran towards the gunman, telling him to stop. The heroic act prompted four garbagemen to approach the Lexus and stop the thief from getting away.

Trashman Richard Gaukroger told the U.K.’s Hull Daily Mail that the workers felt compelled to take action when they saw the woman exit her Audi and confront the carjacker.

‘As we passed the Lexus, he tried to get away and we went for him.
I then sat on the gunman until the police arrived.’

“Seeing this, me and the others decided to use the bin wagon to block the gunman getting away in the car,” said Gaukroger. “So, we drove in front of it. As we passed the Lexus, he tried to get away and we went for him. I then sat on the gunman until the police arrived.”

Getting stuck behind a trash truck is an extremely annoying event, but these garbagemen clearly aren’t to be messed with. If they weren’t around, the carjacker would’ve easily gotten away once the doofus realized how to put the car in drive.
